What Is BroadBand Light Therapy?
BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy employs advanced energy-emitting technology to enhance skin aesthetics, promoting a youthful and smoother appearance. At Refine Plastic Surgery, our team utilizes the BBL® HERO™ (High Energy Rapid Output) from Sciton®, which is a type of intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment that involves the application of therapeutic light energy gently heating the skin to kick-start new collagen development. BBL for our Midland-Odessa, TX is effective for a variety of skin issues, offering significant improvements for those dealing with sun damage, unwanted freckles, rosacea, and visible blood vessels. It also aids in achieving a smoother and more uniform skin texture, resulting in rejuvenated, radiant skin. The BBL HERO features increased speed, power, and twice the irritation-fighting cooling capacity. This means you can see more effective results faster. BBL HERO can be used away from the face as well with treatments available for larger areas, like the arms, legs, chest, and back. We invite you to schedule a consultation at our practice in Odessa, TX to discover how BBL stands out as a cutting-edge solution for skin rejuvenation with proven benefits for our patients. Medical spa treatments and surgical consultations are held at our Odessa, TX location.
How Does BBL Work?
After creating a suitable treatment plan, the settings of the BBL system will be adjusted to fit your needs. Before starting the treatment, we will clean your skin and prepare it for BBL therapy. Your eyes will be covered to protect them from the light of the laser. A small handpiece will deliver the BroadBand Light therapy with unprecedented speed and precision to your treatment area with as many as five times the pulses as regular BBL. A BBL HERO treatment session only takes about 15 minutes, after which you are free to resume your normal routine.
What Should I Expect After BroadBand Light Therapy?
After BroadBand Light (BBL) therapy, you can generally expect a smooth recovery process with minimal downtime. You might notice some mild redness or warmth in the treated areas, similar to a light sunburn, which typically subsides within a few hours. Your provider may recommend applying a calming lotion to soothe the skin. Post-treatment instructions could also include avoiding direct sunlight for a period of time and wearing sunscreen to protect the skin. Results from BBL can be seen in 2 – 6 weeks after the first therapy, but optimal results will typically be observed after multiple BBL treatments. The exact number of sessions will be customized based on your aesthetic goals and skin type.

Am I A Candidate for BroadBand Light Therapy?
An ideal candidate for BBL is any woman or man suffering from hyperpigmentation or heavily textured skin. These conditions can be caused by acne, sun damage, damaged capillaries, or rosacea. BBL also helps to make the skin seem more youthful by initiating the regeneration of collagen. Depending on the types of modality and filter used, BBL may be used as a therapy and/or maintenance regimen for an array of skin issues. BroadBand Light Therapy FAQ
What areas can be treated with BBL?
Most areas of skin can be treated with BBL, but the most commonly treated areas are the face, chest, hands, neck, shoulders, and upper back. These are the areas that tend to have the most damage since they're regularly exposed to the sun. The face, neck, and hands are also most often affected by natural aging and lifestyle, so treating these spots can help revitalize your total appearance. During your initial consultation with Dr. Brown, tell him about all your concerns so he can create your ideal treatment plan.
How is BBL different from other lasers?
The innovate BroadBand Light by Sciton is a high-powered IPL (intense pulsed light) treatment. The dual lamps and wide range of energy wavelengths allow Dr. Brown to adjust your BBL treatment to match your skin goals. Utilizing varying energies, BBL can correct red and brown lesions, plus light and dark spots, without affecting nearby skin and tissues. Safe and effective, BBL can give you a rejuvenated complexion faster than many other skin treatments.
Is BBL safe for all skin tones?
Since the energy wavelengths in a BBL treatment can be adjusted for your unique needs, BBL can be used on all skin types and tones. For your best results, Dr. Brown suggests you avoid unprotected UV (ultraviolet) light exposure (both tanning beds and natural sunlight) for at least 10 – 14 days before your appointment. After tanning, your skin has higher levels of melanin (pigment), which may absorb the BBL energy and impact your results. The treated areas will be extra sensitive to UV exposure, so you should continue to limit your sun exposure and not use tanning beds while you are getting BBL and for a minimum of two weeks following your last treatment.
